 What is Digital Storytelling?

Have you ever watched a documentary, or a youtube video that told an interesting story? That's essentially what digital storytelling is! It is a different and modern way of being able to tell a story to large groups of people, all while using audio, images, video clips, and more. Any kind of story can be told through digital storytelling, such as personal memories or events, historical events, or even directions on how to do something. Many elements can affect a digital story, it includes the pace, tone, and imagery of the video.

Examples :

Here is a list / links to some good examples of digital stories.

Why is it Useful?

I think that digital storytelling can be a very useful tool to have in education, work, or even personal lives. Creating a meaningful and detailed video that includes important elements of a story can allow the viewer to understand the story better than if someone were to just "tell it". I feel that digital story telling can give the creator the most control over how someone views and understands their story. When someone "tells" a story, it will often be up to the listener to create their own images in their head, and relate to the speaker with their own experiences and ideas.

Relatable Ideas

Have you ever read a book and wondered what it would look like as the movie? I feel like that may be a relatable thought as many people wish to see their favorite books on the big screen. When people turn books into movies, it takes the director and the creator's, (and possibly the author's) perspective on what the story should look like to everyone. This is essentially what digital story telling is. It is going to take a lot of communication and work between the director, the author, the actors, and other people working on this movie to create a movie for everyone to see, while still containing the main concept of the book (the original story)

Here is an example of this
