Digital Literacy

  Digital Literacy  What is it?  With a quick overview of what digital literacy is, it is defined to be something requires skills in locating and using information and in critical thinking. Beyond that, however, digital literacy involves knowing digital tools and using them in communicative, collaborative ways through social engagement. Although going into it a little bit further, it seems to be an umbrella term for many other aspects that go under it such as media literacy and informational literacy. I liked how professor Hiller Spires, a professor of literacy and technology at North Carolina State University, views it. Community of Practice & Social Media

  Community of Practice :  Definition  [a group of people who "share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly."]  This is just a simple definition of a "Community of Practice" that can be found on the internet. Although going a little bit more in depth on the idea, there are a lot of concepts that go into communities of practice. There are also a lot of things that can differ / impact a community of practice. Digital Story Video

  Last Post :  In the last blog post, I talked about digital story telling, and I even mentioned a couple of examples of digital story telling. What I did miss out on was the process that some might take to create a digital story.  Now lets go into a little bit more detail on the process :  Some people may use a digital storyboard . Here is a quick look at what a digital storyboard may look like:  Digital Story Videos : A digital story will show itself in its final product as a video! Like I mentioned in the last post, they may appear as a commercial, a project, a movie, or a documentary. To plan a video using a digital storyboard, creators will use images to symbolize how the story is progressing. Underneath the photos for these scenes, there will be an included script and description of what may be going on in the scene.
